Drake‘s Summer Sixteen tour has been named the highest grossing tour in hip-hop history. The Toronto rapper was joined by Future on the dates, which ran across the US over three months. They performed 54 shows between July and October and it is claimed tickets brought in $85 million.
The duo has now dethroned the previous hip-hop record holders, Jay Z and Kanye West, for their 2012 Watch The Throne tour, which grossed $75.6 million over the course of 63 dates. The other top rap tours of 2016 included Kanye’s Saint Pablo Tour, which earned $52.8 million, and the Bad Boy Reunion Tour, which grossed $17.5 million.
But hip-hop’s sales paled in comparison to the tours of other genres. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band topped 2016 with $268.3 million, followed by Beyoncé on $256.2 million, Coldplay with $241 million, Guns N’ Roses with $188.4 million, and Adele with $167.7 million.
