Drake and Ed Sheeran
will continue to live out their underdog narratives for the rest of
their days as they take turns ousting each other as the King of Spotify. More Life, Drake's new 'playlist' released over the weekend,
just shattered two of Ed Sheeran's streaming records he's held for less
than a month according to the streaming service.
According to a Spotify spokesperson, More Life totaled 61,302,082 streams on March 19, breaking the record for most first day streams for an album (Ed Sheeran's album, Divide, notched 56,727,861 streams on March 3, 2017). Drake earned 76,355,041 total streams on the same day, becoming the artist with the most streams in one day on the service, a record that was also previously set by Ed Sheeran on March 3.
Remember that these are Spotify numbers only. With Apple Music and other services included, the total streams count could well surpass 100 million. Just a few days before More Life released, Spotify had revealed that Drake is the first act to hit 10 billion streams on their platform.
